About This Cause
Garden 31 (G31) is a nonprofit organic farming organization with deep community roots. We focus on generating holistic community health through sustainable agriculture, education, and empowerment. By growing seasonal crops based on community demand, we make quality food accessible while cultivating opportunity and resilience. Our Vision: To create a community in which all people have access to nutritional food in an environment that is conducive to growth, health, and prosperity. Our Goal: To empower socioeconomically disadvantaged populations and strengthen communities by providing career opportunities in regenerative agriculture, food sovereignty, and land conservation. How We Grow Change: G.R.O.W.E.R. Apprenticeship (Year 3) – Generating Real Opportunities With Earth’s Resources. This 24–36 month apprenticeship offers formerly incarcerated and at-risk individuals hands-on training in organic farming, marketing, distribution, and management. Graduates gain the skills to operate their own Garden 31 Franchise Farm or pursue careers within the organization. The program also provides recovery and re-entry support to foster lasting personal growth and community impact. M.U.L.C.H. Outreach (Year 2) – Members Upgrading Local Community Health. Our outreach team creates community gardens across San Diego County, transforming underused spaces into productive food gardens and teaching residents how to sustain them—improving local nutrition, engagement, and environmental health. School Gardens – At Alta Vista and Murray High Schools, over 60 continuation students learn organic farming, teamwork, and entrepreneurship through hands-on garden programs. Students grow and sell their own produce, gain mentorship from college partners, and explore future careers in sustainability. Together, we’re cultivating a sustainable food system—one that nourishes people, restores the planet, and grows hope from the ground up.
