About This Cause
"Let it endure like the Wasatch Mountains, call it Wasatch Academy" As a Presbyterian minister devoted to life improvement through education, Duncan McMillan opened the doors of Wasatch Academy's first school house to local residents of Utah's Sanpete County in 1875. That now famous quote above cemented not only the name of the school but began a tradition of excellence that has lasted the duration of Wasatch Academy's history – over 141 years. Wasatch Academy has been recognized as "Best of State" among all private K-12 schools in Utah for the past eight consecutive years (2009-2017). Wasatch Academy is the oldest secondary boarding school in the state. Wasatch Academy educates over 200 young people annually. Students come from over 25 different countries and 25 U.S. states. Graduating seniors matriculate to college prepared to meet the challenges, responsibilities, and expectations that come with a college degree. Pioneering teaching and learning since its founding, Wasatch Academy provides a dynamic balance of rigorous academic studies with a wide variety of opportunities including community service, cultural enrichment, leadership training, athletics, and outdoor education. The faculty attention given to individual learners allows students to develop the confidence, curiosity, and compassion needed to successfully meet the demands of a swiftly changing world. A comprehensive Learning Services Program is offered to students needing academic coaching, targeted learning support, customized learning plans, and content tutoring. We offer resources to every student to ensure their experience at Wasatch Academy brings out their individual significance, their worth, and their dignity. From the beginning, Wasatch Academy's picturesque setting, facilities, and surroundings have enhanced the learning environment and unique student opportunities. Historic 19th and 20th-century buildings line the campus and play a role in Sanpete County's pioneer heritage. The original school still stands on Mt. Pleasant's Main Street, and not only serves as the school's museum and archive but as a major landmark in downtown Mt. Pleasant. In recent years new dormitories and special academic buildings have been added to the scenic campus, including a math and science building, a state-of-the-art music conservatory, a center for evolving technologies, and a studio arts facility on Mt. Pleasant's State Street. Another State Street classroom building, to house Wasatch Academy's growing Engineering program, is in the planning stages.
