Mission Statement
The mission of the Rape Recovery Center is to support and empower survivors and victims of sexual violence and educate the community about the cause, impact, and prevention of sexual violence.
About This Cause
We connect survivors with resources and support to find safety, stability, and hope. All staff at the RRC are trained for every level of care. Our Advocacy services include a 24-hour Sexual Assault Mobile Response Team, in-office crisis intervention, case management, and a crisis helpline. Survivors accompanied by an Advocate following an assault are more likely to report to law enforcement and less likely to engage in harmful coping mechanisms, like alcohol/drugs and suicidal ideation. We meet survivors at hospitals during rape kit examination, Code-R. Code-R protocol established by the RRC, the SL District Attorney’s Office, local police departments, local hospitals, and the Utah State Medical Examiner’s Office in the 1980s, continues to be used today. These services are unique to the RRC and unduplicated in SL County. Once a survivor has established physical safety, they work with RRC Staff to continue healing and exploring deep-seated trauma. Drop-in style support groups specialized individual short and long-term therapy, and group therapy is offered at no cost, in English and Spanish with interpretation services available in other languages. The RRC also works to prevent sexual violence as a public health issue through Community Engagement services that include creating awareness of resources and educating youth, families, classrooms, and community groups across the Wasatch Front.
