Mission Statement
We will improve the health of families through high-quality infant/toddler childcare, parent education, and parent support.
About This Cause
The childcare system has gained a lot of attention recently, even within the federal government. Why is that? COVID-19 brought to light the struggles both parents and childcare providers have been facing for a long time. Working parents struggle to find high-quality childcare they can afford so they can go to work or school with peace of mind. Childcare providers are struggling to provide high-quality care at an affordable price while being able to pay their employees and meet licensing requirements. The programs that struggle the most within the childcare system are the infant and toddler programs. These programs are expensive because they require more staff to operate. More staff almost always equals higher price tags for families. In Arkansas, we only have enough high-quality childcare centers (those who receive a 3-star quality rating from the state) to accommodate 10% of our infants while over 60% of mothers work outside of the home. This is an unacceptable statistic and we at Babies First are hoping to change it. We believe the answer to this issue is the "it takes a village" approach. This is why we will operate as a non-profit center; we are dedicated to providing quality care for all infants and toddlers. We also take it a step further and will provide free parent support and education. We have credentialed professionals lined up, ready to teach classes and volunteer their time. The programs we will provide are listed below. Program #1: High-quality infant/toddler childcare At Babies First, Inc. we believe high-quality care for infants and toddlers should be a priority in the childcare system. Unfortunately, because of the cost of these programs, they are often underfunded and in low supply. So what will “high-quality” care for this age group look like at our center? -Well-trained, experienced staff. -Low child to teacher ratios. -Low group sizes. -A variety of activities to inspire learning on all levels and ensure children meet their milestones. -Clean environment. -Individualized care for each child. Program #2: Parent support and education Our parent support and education program will offer a variety of services including: -FREE Classes, resources, and support groups conducted by qualified professionals on the following subjects: Birthing Breastfeeding Postpartum care Infant First Aid Proper feeding (bottle and solid food transition) Tobacco Cessation Pediatric Sleep Training Postpartum exercise Marriage support -Infant equipment, formula, food, and clothing donation. These services will grow and evolve with the needs of the families we serve. With over 50 years of childcare experience and 10 years of parent education and social work on our board, we know we can make these programs happen.
