Mission Statement
The Pear Tree Family Teacher Community (FTC) is a volunteer-led nonprofit dedicated to enriching the educational experience at Pear Tree Community School and expanding access to transformative learning opportunities across Oakland and nationally. Through fundraising, advocacy, and direct support, FTC ensures that students at Pear Tree—and learners in the broader community—have the resources they need to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
About This Cause
The Pear Tree Family Teacher Community (FTC) is a volunteer-led nonprofit dedicated to enriching education and expanding opportunity through fundraising, advocacy, and program support. FTC provides essential resources that foster student success, strengthen family engagement, and enhance access to high-quality, student-centered learning experiences. Pear Tree Community School, an independent, Montessori-inspired elementary school in Oakland, serves as a model for transformative education. Rooted in the MIRROR framework (Mirroring, Identification, Reclamation, Relationships, Orientation, and Reflection), Pear Tree fosters critical thinking, confidence, and a lifelong love of learning. Through Seeds to Roots Oakland (S2RO), Pear Tree supports educators and schools in implementing proven, evidence-based teaching practices nation-wide. By expanding access to innovative learning models, this initiative equips educators with tools that foster deeper engagement and stronger outcomes for students in a variety of educational settings. Support for FTC provides students, educators, and families with the resources and opportunities they need to thrive. Donations help: --Expand access to high-quality education – More than 50 percent of Pear Tree students receive financial aid, ensuring children from all backgrounds have access to transformative learning experiences. --Enhance learning through critical resources – Funding provides Montessori materials, STEM tools, arts programming, and technology that enrich education and inspire curiosity. --Strengthen family and community engagement – FTC organizes workshops, cultural events, and volunteer initiatives that foster collaboration between students, families, and educators. --Support educator training and program development – Through Seeds to Roots Oakland, FTC helps implement student-centered, innovative teaching methods that improve educational experiences. --Sustain a thriving learning environment – Contributions support the development of an Eco-Classroom and Outdoor Learning Area, promoting hands-on environmental education and sustainability. --Expand to middle school – With continued growth, Pear Tree is developing a middle school program with science labs, collaborative learning spaces, and advanced academic opportunities. FTC is committed to creating sustainable, student-focused education that prepares young learners to thrive academically and beyond.
