Mission Statement
Shadow Jumpers provides meaningful experiences and a sense of community to individuals and families living with sun-related disorders and disabilities.
About This Cause
Since 2017 Shadow Jumpers has provided meaningful experiences and a sense of community to individuals and families living with sun-related disorders and disabilities. From organizing family vacations and retrofitting homes to providing protective clothing and covering living expenses, Shadow Jumpers is here to remove the burden of the sun the best we can. Shadow Jumpers focuses on three groups; kids, parents and community. Shadow Jumpers routinely tries to help children accomplish their “wins.” Sometimes those wins can be on a grand scale (think a sun-proof trip to Disney World), and other times they can be smaller (think assisting a kid so they can play baseball during the hot sunny summer) Shadow Jumpers tries to connect parents with families we have helped in the past. Also, during a Shadow Jumpers sponsored experiences, we routinely try to educate parents on the DIY of making these trips on their own. The expectation is that after a Shadow Jumpers trip, the feel-good experience the family has had will lead to parents attempting a similar experience on their own. So many sun-related disorders can feel isolating because of the rarity of those conditions. Often, a family will be the only one in their state going through these circumstances. It’s essential for Shadow Jumpers to bring these people together online to create an inside community feel. We share stories and photos of people taking on the sun or clips of movies and TV shows using these disorders. We also use our social media to promote educational videos that our families can easily repost to their circle to explain better what they are experiencing. The more comfortable we are in accepting our disorder, laughing at our disorder and living with our disorder, the less of a burden it ultimately becomes. Combating the Sun comes in a wide variety of experiences, renovations, accommodations and communities. That is because these disorders impact everyone involved – kids, parents, siblings, friends, colleagues, and even medical professionals. For kids, just getting the chance to accomplish or participate in a dream they never thought possible could give them the courage to further tackle barriers they may have put up for themselves and the sun. Parents might feel optimistic about trying and create new moments for their family on their own. And others might realize all they have to offer now that they are connected with thousands of people just like them going through their hardships. But it takes all of us. And we're all in the shade on this one together
