Mission Statement
S.A.F.E. House is a community based non-profit organization committed to Stop Abuse in the Family Environment by providing a comprehensive approach to end domestic violence that includes crisis intervention, safe shelter, counseling, advocacy, and community education.
About This Cause
S.A.F.E. House was founded in 1994 as a grassroots effort of concerned community leaders who were committed to the fundamental value that everyone has the right to live in a safe, nurturing, and supportive family environment. We provide a comprehensive approach to working with families, through the following core programs: Emergency Services: S.A.F.E. House provides a 62-bed safe shelter in a confidential location, as well as a 24/7 crisis hotline that provides crisis intervention, information, and referrals. Services provided at the shelter include case management, emotional support, food, clothing for victims and their children, support groups, and recreational activities. We also have a Children's Advocate who facilitates after school groups within a children's activity center full of toys, games, and educational resources. Counseling Services: S.A.F.E. House, Inc. acknowledges the significant role that mental health plays in the journey from victim to survivor. Counseling services are accessible to both children and adults, offered at both the shelter and the Counseling and Advocacy Center situated in Henderson. Our dedicated counselors assist clients in comprehending the profound impact of domestic violence, guiding them towards healing options, enhancing life skills, and fostering greater self-awareness. Additionally, the Counseling department administers court-ordered domestic violence classes, further emphasizing our commitment to comprehensive support and recovery for those affected by domestic violence. Community Education and Outreach: The Outreach and Education program is dedicated to providing training and information to the public, aiming to educate individuals on identifying and assisting victims of domestic violence while amplifying awareness of the issue. The Community Engagement Manager actively engages with over 2,500 community members annually, reaching out to various groups, schools, churches, and organizations whose members can benefit from awareness and educational sessions. Another key objective is to heighten awareness of domestic violence's impact within underserved populations. The Community Engagement Manager consistently conducts outreach to youth, seniors, and the LGBTQIA2+ community, disseminating information through community partners and facilitating educational sessions. Additionally, the manager plays a crucial role in onboarding volunteers, enabling compassionate community members to contribute their time in furthering S.A.F.E. House's mission. Advocacy Services: S.A.F.E. House, Inc. adopts a victim-defined advocacy approach to address the unique needs of survivors of domestic violence. Those seeking advocacy support can avail themselves of various services, including: (1) court accompaniment; (2) assistance with victim notification; (3) aid in preparing victim impact statements; (4) guidance on completing Victims of Crime Compensation Forms; and (5) acting as a liaison between victims of crime, law enforcement, the prosecuting attorney’s office, the criminal justice system, and community resources. Our dedicated Advocates are available to accompany domestic violence victims to appointments, ensuring access to essential services such as housing, healthcare, public benefits, and more. S.A.F.E. House employs Advocates who are stationed in the Henderson Police Department and North Las Vegas City Attorney's office to further reach victims and coordinate with local systems. This comprehensive advocacy approach underscores our commitment to empowering survivors and facilitating their journey towards safety and stability. Housing Program: Our housing program is a compassionate initiative dedicated to supporting individuals seeking refuge from abusive environments. With a focus on empowerment and rebuilding lives, our agency facilitates access to secure and affordable housing options within the community. Beyond offering a safe haven, we extend a helping hand by providing financial assistance to aid survivors in regaining independence through our Client Empowerment Fund. Our Housing Manager assists clients with finding affordable housing, budgeting, finding furniture, and other needs, in order to ensure long term stability.
