Mission Statement

Paws 4 Love, through pet therapy, encourages literacy, volunteerism and well-being within the community.

About This Cause

Paws 4 Love therapy dogs visit facilities such as schools, universities, emergency dispatchers, EMTs, children who require advocacy services and local libraries. They are well-trained, outgoing and affectionate and interested in meeting new people. Medical studies have proven again and again that animals have tremendous healing potential. These studies have shown that simply petting an animal can lower blood pressure and heart rate, and lessen anxiety and depression. Paws 4 Love also partners with Washoe County libraries and schools for its literacy program, Paws 2 Read, where friendly dogs lend a loving, non-judgmental ear to young readers. After a child reads a book to a Paws 2 Read dog, they are given a free book to keep (donated by Paws 4 Love). Research has shown when a child is given repeated opportunity to read to a dog, the child grows more confident in their reading ability and develops a desire to read on their own. Paws 4 Love further is a Washoe County resource for crisis response. Dog teams partner with counselors, and local leaders to provide comfort and support during times of need. Your donation helps contribute to our mission enabling us with funding necessary to purchase books, create awareness in our community and support the teams in their therapy work. Paws 4 Love serves as a resource for everyone and relies entirely on donations by supporters like you. We are 100% volunteer organization so all funds goes to this purpose (no overhead). All donations are tax deductible and directly benefit our programs and further our mission which encourages literacy, volunteerism and well-being within our community.
