About This Cause
Sail Beyond Cancer USA provides three-hour private respite sails at no cost for cancer patients and their loved ones. These mission sails provide foster hope and resilience for those being challenged by cancer to rebuild courage and create lasting memories. We bring people together one sail at a time to ease the stresses, fears, and unknowns that cancer brings to an entire family. Anyone in treatment for any type of cancer, regardless of their age, income level, ethnic background, or other life circumstances are eligible to come sailing with us. Sail Beyond Cancer USA was founded with understanding the importance of creating a national and global network of Sail Beyond Cancer chapters so that more individuals may benefit from the transformational experiences of honoring those challenged by cancer by harnessing the healing powers of wind, water and sail. We seek to improve the quality of life and provide psychosocial support for anyone undergoing treatment for cancer by harnessing the healing powers of wind, water, and sail. Research shows that support networks are directly linked with increased quality of life and a reduction of stress, anxiety, depression, and unease for cancer patients undergoing treatment as well as their loved ones who support them. Mission sails not only provide a much-needed break from the sometimes rigorous and overwhelming schedule of cancer treatments, but also quality time spent with family, friends, and caregivers, creating lasting, positive memories in a rejuvenating environment.
