Mission Statement
InfraSound designs experimental music experiences for people of all backgrounds, and we encourage individuals to engage with experimental music through outreach performances, education, and conversation. Our in-house ensemble is made up of artists, advocates, performers, and leaders, who prioritize accessibility and ally-ship in new music. In addition to the InfraSound Ensemble, we support new musical endeavors through curated concerts and collaborations, amplifying the works of individuals who are largely unheard, redefining the curation, promotion, and presentation of experimental music to create a more sustainable musical future.
About This Cause
Praised as “vibrant and enthusiastic” (New York Concert Review) and “one of New York City’s most promising groups of young artists” (Chamber Music America), InfraSound is a collective of New Music artists that design experimental music experiences for people of all backgrounds. A recipient of grants from Chamber Music America (Ensemble Forward 2021 and 2023, Classical Commissioning 2023), New Music USA (Organization Fund 2023), the Foundation for Contemporary Arts (Emergency Grant 2022), and the The Dwight and Ursula Mamlok Prize for Interpreters of Contemporary Music (2021), InfraSound is recognized as one of the prominent voices for emerging contemporary music ensembles in NYC. Founded in 2019 by members of the Manhattan School of Music’s Contemporary Performance Program, our in-house ensemble is made up of artists, advocates, performers, and leaders, who prioritize accessibility and allyship in New Music. In addition to the InfraSound Ensemble, we support new musical endeavors through curated concerts and collaborations, amplifying the works of individuals who are largely unheard, and redefining the curation, promotion, and presentation of experimental music to create a more sustainable musical future. Our colorful history includes collaborations with fire and circus performers, poets, dancers, theater directors, conductors, visual artists, lighting designers, composers, the NYC LGBT Center, and a growing roster of 30+ musicians. InfraSound is built on the idea that artists supporting other artists is the future of the avant-garde and experimental.
