Mission Statement
Marina’s Ruby Slipper exists to restore dignity, wellness, and opportunity to single working mothers and their children—especially those in underserved and military communities. Our mission is to break intergenerational cycles of hardship by creating access to mental health support, food education, and inclusive learning environments that center cultural identity, resilience, and community care. We believe that when a mother is seen, supported, and empowered, her children thrive—and so does the community around her. Through our work, we cultivate spaces where women and families are nourished holistically: emotionally, physically, and intellectually. At the heart of our mission is a commitment to equity, healing, and long-term change rooted in belonging and self-determination.
About This Cause
Marina’s Ruby Slipper is a women-led 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to creating holistic, culturally grounded support systems for single working mothers and their children—especially those from underserved and military communities. We are built on the belief that true nourishment goes beyond food; it encompasses mental health, movement, education, identity, and belonging. Our work is carried out through two flagship programs: Thrive Together is a community-based maternal wellness initiative that addresses the often invisible struggles of single working mothers. We focus on three pillars: mental health support, food literacy, and physical well-being. Our approach is trauma-informed, stigma-free, and rooted in real-world connection. Whether a mother is navigating life after divorce, military deployment, or generational poverty, Thrive Together exists to help her build stability, find community, and reclaim her identity. Chicana EduPlate brings wellness into the classroom—transforming Title I schools through garden-to-table education that blends STEM with Social Emotional Learning (SEL). Students grow food, explore science, and engage in culturally relevant lessons that support both academic success and household wellness. This program doesn't just educate children—it nourishes entire families and reclaims food knowledge as a form of empowerment. Together, these two initiatives create a unique, dual-impact model: we serve both mothers and their children, in the home and in the classroom. We are not a coaching program, a fitness brand, or a quick fix. We are a movement built on healing, identity, and systems-level change. Marina’s Ruby Slipper is growing a national network of support for women who are too often overlooked. We stand for equity, community, and the right to thrive—no matter your ZIP code, income, or circumstance.
