About This Cause
The Litter Legion was formed in June 2020 to combat the impacts of steep pandemic-related budget cuts to the NYC Department of Sanitation that drastically reduced corner basket collection and street sweeping. Our community was getting more and more littered but this group of volunteers decided to go out and be the change by hosting cleanup events on a weekly basis. While many of the budget cuts have since been restored, our mission to keep our community clean continues. We are run solely by volunteers and rely on public donations to purchase supplies and organize events.
