Mission Statement
Incubate provides mentorship and support for participants in order to promote project-based learning and to provide exposure to new developments within various fields such as, but not limited to, science, technology, economics, politics and the humanities.
About This Cause
Incubate Nepal is a 10-week mentorship program that connects some of the most talented high school students from all over Nepal and from a range of socio-economic backgrounds, with young mentors in the United States to collaborate on open-ended projects. In a country like Nepal that suffers from the emigration of highly talented students, Incubate Nepal stands as an affirmation to homegrown talent. Incubate Nepal identifies talented youths across the country, recruiting from not just major population centers but also from the remotest parts of the country, and helps build a strong network of innovative individuals. We take into account diversity, geographical location, access to resources, gender ratio and various other factors of inclusion and select candidates by normalizing talent to the resources they had access to. Founded and organized by a group of Nepali alumni from top institutions in the United States (Harvard, MIT and Amherst College), the program guides participants through impactful projects in diverse fields ranging from computer science, physics and biology to economics, finance, art and politics. Here are some projects: - Team Drishti created an android app to help individuals with low vision and blindness identify Nepali bank notes. The students participated in a hackathon to encourage contribution to the repository. - Team Art Hub Nepal documented Nepali public artworks such as local paintings, murals, sculptures and architecture in an interactive map that helps Nepali and foreign users locate and appreciate local art throughout Nepal. - Team Kisan developed a mobile app that provides real-time agricultural news and notices to farmers in Nepal by aggregating and curating dozens of news sources from around the country. The program is also oriented toward mentoring students as they apply to top programs around the world. We believe that individual students, when provided the right opportunities for growth, can create networks that affect change throughout the educational landscape.
