Mission Statement
The Hackers Conference is an educational foundation and non-profit 501(c)3 corporation, The Hackers Conference, Inc. It is meant to foster a community of people who share a sense of curiosity, a willingness to engage in the exchange of ideas, exercise critical and creative thinking and push against the edges of their field.
About This Cause
We appreciate your support, which will help to make the Hacker Conference continue. This year was a period of major transition and your contribution will help us go from the conference that Glenn Tenney has shepherded for decades into a formal 501(c)(3) non-profit that can carry on into the future. The Hackers Conference stimulates curiosity by developing new understandings, through experience sharing, and the playful exchange of ideas through discussion and critical thinking. The goal is to push against the edges of the participants’ interests. Most likely someone in your organization has attended, perhaps you. The first conference was a one time event that combined a reunion of the people in Steven Levy's book "HACKERS" and similarly like-minded individuals. When it became clear in 1985 that this community saw value in meeting every year, Glenn Tenney stepped up to organize an annual, invitation only conference starting in 1986. This conference has been referred to as 'The Hackers Conference' in reference to its origin as a repeat of that first conference in Marin. Under Glenn's stewardship, the conference has, with the exception of 2020, been held annually every year since 1986. In 2022, in time for the 37th conference, a non-profit was created for organizing the conference and keeping it going. The Hacker's Conference Incorporated is tasked with organizing the annual conference that brings together incredible people, to give them a forum to meet, communicate, interact with amazing individuals from different disciplines, form connections, and to inspire.
