Mission Statement
ReImagine Science is an organization that envisions a science culture where both people and ideas flourish in the presence of effective support, balanced lifestyles, and thriving workplaces. This is a time of questions. Science is a powerful vehicle for investigating the universe, questioning the mysteries we do not understand, and measuring, monitoring and tracking what we do. The current movements toward social justice and equity, restoration, and protecting the parts of the system that do not speak for themselves need powerful allies who work through the exploration, discovery, and invention space we call 'science.' We believe science, and scientists, can be mindful stewards for contribution through discovery, understanding, and invention. These tools can positive change for the planet, grounded in core values that we declare, and share.
About This Cause
We work for change from within the scientific community and informing of policy as well. We consider primary areas to be: what science 'produces,' how we train our young (PhD level and above), how we teach science and what is taught (K-16), how we work together, and how we interact with and listen to society. We follow community-based dialogic models for change. What we aim to solve: In 2008, we saw drastic change on the horizon of science in the United States. We knew it was time to create a space for exploration and experimentation that goes beyond problem-based solutions, to facilitate critical conversations for the future of science. We've since collaborated on more than a dozen initiatives that have brought together hundreds of individuals from science and technological domains to discuss the looming questions of our industry, such as: Who else is stepping up to the plate to find new solutions to old problems? What are the components of effective teamwork, and how may they be implemented? How and where is science being utilized on a global level? How can we lead the next generation of scientists and engineers, generate optimism and discover new paths that will take them where they set out to go? What's possible, if we dream big?
