Mission Statement
Overview – Hand Up Network (HUN) is a non-profit ministry committed to helping those experiencing a tough season in life to have hope for their future and a process to achieve it. Supportive, “whole-person” programs focus on the practical, physical, and spiritual well-being of those we serve, and provide a “Hand Up” while avoiding the traditional response of a “Hand Out”. In general, our programs are designed to focus on encouraging, equipping, and empowering those who want, and who are willing, to change their own circumstances. This is accomplished through our Victim Services Program, Immigrations Program, Adult Mentoring Program, Response Teams, and the Resale Store and Training Center. Each person has a unique journey based on the development of their own life plan and supported through mentorship and coaching. Hand Up Network programs are intentional to build or rebuild a foundation that helps to establish abilities and good habits that provide for long-term success. Our five core values are Love God, Love Each Other, Serve, Excellence, and Accountability. Partnering with civic and community agencies, businesses, and churches, the Hand Up Network provides caring, expert assessment for those among us enduring a tough season but wanting to gain control of their lives. The Hand Up Network helps motivate and focus these individuals on the most urgent priorities to help them develop a life plan and to walk with them on the journey back to wholeness. This includes remaining engaged with clients and partners beyond meeting the most pressing need and addressing emotional, spiritual, practical, and well-being issues. Organizational structure – HUN is made up of seven basic areas: 1. Executive – CEO, Development, Human Resources, Accounting and Network Services, MOUs (signed agreements with other agencies that clearly define the relationship and accountability for both parties) 2. Victim Services Program – Victim Service Advocates work with law enforcement and Network Partners to guide victims to needed health, legal and compensation services, and resources 3. Immigration Program – the Immigration Services Team assists legal immigrants who need to address their residency status or are on course for naturalization 4. Mentor Programs – coordinates clients, mentorship, classes, volunteers, relationships with churches, community service organizations, and other local programs 5. Hand Up Response Teams – coordinating skilled and general volunteer teams and donations for community service projects as well as Disaster/Emergency Response in coordination with emergency response efforts 6. Resale Store and Training Center – receiving, sorting, pricing, and selling new and gently used clothing and home goods at a reasonable price, including through ecommerce 7. Operations – stewardship and maintenance of the HUN facilities, phones, and internet, and maintaining Response Team vehicles and equipment
About This Cause
Hand Up Network Menu of Services Hand Up Network (HUN) is a non-profit ministry committed to helping those experiencing a tough season in life to have hope for their future and a process to achieve it. This is accomplished through our Victim Services Program, our Adult Mentoring Program, our Response Teams, and our Resale Store and Training Center. Hand Up Network Victim Services is made up of certified representatives who provide on-scene crisis intervention and advocacy as soon as possible to help alleviate the impact of victimization. It provides a 24-hour crisis hotline, crisis intervention, advocacy, accompaniment to hospitals, law enforcement offices, prosecutors’ offices, and courts, as well as providing public education to the community through trainings, awareness, and educational materials. HUN Mentoring Program uses an intentional process for determining if potential clients are ready for mentorship, and the challenge of becoming all they might be. It provides caring, expert assessment by addressing emotional, spiritual, practical, and well-being issues. From the Intake Interview and attendance of SPARC (“Sparking a Passion for a Renewed Calling”), our clients are encouraged to build their own Life Plans. They will meet with their Mentor on a weekly basis and encouraged to take advantage of a score of classes and workshops. Our Mentoring Program is not a 4-week or 8-week program but walks with our clients until they are able to achieve the course in life they desire. HURT (Hand Up Response Teams) are led by trained leaders. Community Service Teams respond to specific needs in our community as they arise and may include helping the elderly, cleaning up community areas, responding to requests for indigent assistance. Community Outreach Teams utilize church and community teams into the neighborhood to help people out of their current situations. Emergency Response Teams address unforeseen and tragic needs as they occur in our community, state, and region. These teams work closely with FEMA, TDEM, local Police, and EMS Departments, and each team is designed based on the required expertise of each event and comprised of volunteers who have the skills to address those needs. These teams are not only for immediate response but continued support of the recovery effort long after many national and state organizations have moved on. Hand Up Network has realized a significant void related to existing immigration assistance for our Clients. Many are immigrants who came to the United States legally but unfortunately due to their circumstance, they have found their Immigration status in question through no fault of their own. The Hand Up Net-work Immigration Services Team is designed to assist those navigating the Immigration Process. An example of these services includes personal consultation, family-based immigration, humanitarian relief, citizenship services, residence services, assistance to survivors of domestic and other violent crimes, DACA, etc. In addition to immigration services, HUN is developing training in regard to Civics, FAFSA, ESL, and other education curriculums to help first- and second-generation immigrants achieve success in our community.
