Mission Statement
Marina Middle PTSA's mission is to positively impact the lives of children and families. In that effort, we give special focus to Marina Middle School students and families. Marina Middle School (MMS) provides a warm and supportive educational environment for 6th, 7th and 8th graders. MMS students come from a variety of backgrounds (over 80% quality for free/reduced lunch) and the school strives to meet each student where they are and encourage them to succeed both academically and emotionally. Established in 1935, Marina has a long history of serving the needs of students as well as the larger community (MMS served as a main Red Cross shelter during the 1989 earthquake that devastated the Marina District in San Francisco). Marina is home of the Marina Penguins!
About This Cause
Marina Middle School is a high-performing public school located in the Marina District. Marina serves approximately 850 students in grades 6, 7 and 8 and strives to prepare every student for top high school and college achievement and beyond by providing each student with an equal opportunity to succeed by promoting intellectual growth, creativity, self-discipline, cultural and linguistic sensitivity, democratic responsibility, economic competence, and physical and mental health so that each student can achieve his or her maximum potential. Teachers hold students to rigorous academic standards in a safe learning environment. Academic programs include General Education, English Learner, and Special Education. In addition to an exemplary Physical Education program, Marina offers classes in Band, Orchestra, Computer Arts, Art, Drama, Introductory Spanish, Introductory Mandarin, Guitar, and Journalism. Marina has two full computer labs in addition to iPad and Chromebook carts that are used to promote STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) in the classrooms. Marina is pleased to partner with the Presidio YMCA in providing an After School Program. We welcome parent involvement, maintain strong communication with families, and offer many opportunities for parents to become a part of the school community.
