Mission Statement
We fight for the education, health, and financial stability of everyone in Kitsap County.
About This Cause
PEOPLE - COMMUNITY - RESULTS! • Currently, about 82% of our high school students will graduate but only 30% will go on to post-high school training - apprenticeships, technical school, or college. By 2030, as a result of Graduate Strong, our goal is for that to be 90/70%. A collective impact project, Graduate Strong is an outgrowth of Kitsap Strong, involving community and school district leaders. These skilled graduates will meet the future employment needs of our community. • Fewer children will experience Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), because Kitsap Strong is reaching out to pediatricians, educators - especially preschool teachers, caregivers, and parents to bring a better understanding of the lifelong effects of these negative influences. • Empowering Youth Mentor Program (EYMP) is a community-based one-to-one mentoring program that matches volunteer mentors with mentees ages 8-21. Mentees are matched with trained mentors based on common interests and location. Mentors serve as positive role models and provide friendship and support for youth who are referred by professionals working in the juvenile justice system, schools and social services. • Access to Baby & Child Dentistry (ABCD) Prevention Matters - Children, birth to 5 years of age with a Provider One card are eligible to participate. This program helps you find a dentist, gives children a great start in life by making sure baby teeth are healthy, gets children into a dentist as early as age one, (as recommended by the AA of Pediatric Dentistry), and provides an easy exam with child in their parent’s arms, not in a dental chair, prevents tooth pain later on in life. Benefits include: 3 fluoride varnish applications yearly, 2 dental exams yearly, 2 parent education sessions yearly, restorative care as needed, healthier family as all benefit from the information. • Volunteer Kitsap provides a wide variety of ways that you can help others and teach your children the value of volunteering and the importance of Living United. With over 150 agencies to choose from, we're sure you'll find the volunteer opportunities just right for you. Be sure to save the 4th Friday in June for our Annual Day of Caring where, on average, over 450 volunteers work on service projects at over 25 locations. • Peninsula’s 2-1-1 referral service receives nearly 2000 calls per month from people simply looking for answers, when they have nowhere else to turn. • Through our network of community partners, children in Kitsap County are learning the skills to become resilient in the face of Adverse Childhood Experiences, empowering them to have positive, successful lives. •We believe to succeed as a community, we must tackle the challenges of poverty together. Having a save place to live is one of the keys to a healthy life and community. We are honored to be part of this important collaborative work, Pendleton Place, Kitsap's first permanent supportive housing project - just one of the ways we leverage our united investments to win the fight for the health, education, and financial stability for all in Kitsap County. • YouthBuild programs provide pathways by unleashing the positive energy of low-income young people to rebuild their communities and their lives, breaking the cycle of poverty with a commitment to work, education, community and family. • Homes for All multi-jurisdictional collaboration providing innovative leadership toward reducing homelessness and making it rare. • Your investments = more families with access to fruits & veggies, higher graduation rates, improved employability, safer housing, connected service providers, and a stronger community fabric; these are your dividends. Because of you, United Way is making steady progress by working with other organizations: collaborating, building coalitions, bringing problem solvers together to find answers, fighting for the Health, Education and Financial Stability of everyone in Kitsap County. Our collective impact is making a difference; your investment makes it possible. Thank you!
