Mission Statement
Morning Star Boys’ Ranch, answering God’s call to love and serve those in need, are dedicated to building responsible adults by believing in youth, and providing programs to strengthen families and the community.
About This Cause
Morning Star Program Services Morning Star Boys’ Ranch (MSBR) was established through a generous gift from Mrs. Antonia Heckett of Davenport, Washington in 1957. Mrs. Heckett’s donation was used to build a home for troubled boys. Today, 64 years later, Mrs. Hackett’s legacy remains one that values helping the most vulnerable children and families in our community. Rich in tradition, the original mission of Morning Star Boys’ Ranch continues today: helping develop strong communities through caring and engaged service to children and families in need. From its inception, Morning Star has provided care for boys with behavioral stabilization needs. Today, Morning Star continues the cornerstone service, the Murphy House Therapeutic Residential program. The agency is located on the rolling hills of the Glenrose prairie and is situated on 52 acres of pastural and treed land. The agency features two separate living quarters for the residents, a full-size gym, an educational enrichment room, an outdoor riding arena, and ample property for our robust Morning Star’s 4-H Home & Livestock youth development. Morning Star has also met additional needs in the community by adding other services: In-Home Wrap Around Care Program, Morning Star Foster Care (A Child Placement Agency), and Morning Star Case Aide Program. Areas of Focus Include: • Behavioral Rehabilitation Services (BRS): a therapeutic residential care agency for foster boys ages 6 to 13.5. The program implements best practices in setting behavioral improvement goals in social skills, emotional regulation, education, and permanency. • Case Aide Program: provides prevention-based services to families and children regardless of age or gender in the Spokane region who have identified needs for additional stabilization. • Foster Care (A Child Placement Agency): recruits and licenses new foster families for all children (ages 6 to 18+) in our community. • In-Home Wrap Around Care: provides a continuum of care for foster children (ages 6 to 18+) which includes case management, family therapy, life skills mentoring, overnight respite, and 24-hour on-call crisis intervention.
