Mission Statement

Hearing, Speech & Deaf Center (HSDC) removes communication barriers for people who are Deaf, hard of hearing, or have speech differences . Our mission is to foster inclusive, accessible communities through communication, advocacy, and education.

About This Cause

We envision an inclusive, accessible world, where everyone is understood and respected. Our services are available to people of all ages and incomes, and include: Early Education HSDC's Education department has two services: the Parent-Infant Program (PIP) and Rosen Family Preschool. PIP was established in 1952 and provides free support to families of deaf, deafblind, and hard of hearing toddlers. Rosen Preschool is a bilingual classroom for that emphasizes American Sign Language and English for deaf and hard of hearing children, as well as hearing allies. Audiology & Hearing Aids Our Audiology department offers hearing screenings, comprehensive hearing evaluations, hearing aid fittings and repair, and a variety of assistive listening devices. We make our service intentionally accessible to low-income clients. Speech & Language Our Speech department offers speech therapy to individual clients and speech screenings to schools. Speech-Language Pathologists with a wide range of specialties and skills offer friendly, professional support to clients with speech challenges such as apraxia and stuttering. Deaf & Hard of Hearing Services Advocacy (DHHS) DHHS provides Deaf and hard of hearing community members with free one-on-one advocacy support, including information and referral. It also offers outreach and education to organizations who wish to better learn how to serve Deaf and hard of hearing customers, clients, constituents, employees, or students. HSDC Interpreting Services Our interpreting services provides sign language interpreting to organizations and individuals across the Puget Sound. The majority of our appointments involve American Sign Language, but we offer a variety of specialized interpreting for the deaf, deafblind, and hard of hearing.
