Mission Statement
Boys & Girls Clubs of South Puget Sound (BGCSPS) serves more than 1,550 young people every day ages 6-18 in Pierce, Mason and Kitsap Counties through after-school and all day summer programs. Our nationally recognized programs engage youth to positively impact their academic success, character and citizenship, and healthy lifestyles. Our mission is to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.
About This Cause
Boys & Girls Clubs of South Puget sound provides critical youth development programs after school and in the summer to young people who need them most. These programs include: Great Futures Fund offers a guaranteed stipend to highly capable, qualified and trained college students to work with young people at one of the Club locations. The stipend helps cover academic expenses such as tuition and books, as well as living costs (rent and food). The students commit to working at the Club for up to 20 hours a week during the school year and 40 hours during the summer. Each scholar has a direct, meaningful connection to approximately 45 different youth over the period of their internship. The Nutritional Food Program at the Boys & Girls Clubs of South Puget Sound provides quality nutritional meals and snacks to prepare students to learn and participate in the academic, leadership and healthy lifestyles curricula offered at all Clubs. With the support of private donations and the USDA Meal Program, the meals and snacks are provided to the kids at no cost to their families. Project Learn: This academic support program reinforces the academic enrichment and school engagement of young people during the time they spend at the Club through homework help, tutoring and high-yield learning activities. In the most recent school year, 96% of BGCSPS’s high school seniors graduated from high school, and nearly all reported being enrolled in a post-secondary or vocational training program.
