Mission Statement
Everett Gospel Mission first opened its doors in 1961 to care for the rising number of homeless people in Everett. Today, the Mission is the largest homeless services center in Snohomish, Skagit, and Island Counties. In addition to our comprehensive life recovery programs, Everett Gospel Mission provides meals and shelter for 174 men, and 75 women and children. We provide all services without regard to age, gender, race or religion while sharing the love of Christ to those who wish to hear.
About This Cause
At first glance, the ministry of Everett Gospel Mission may look simple. After all, we’ve been providing food and shelter to homeless people in Snohomish County for 50 years now. But that’s not what it’s all about, is it? At Everett Gospel Mission, we’re all about change. While emergency food and shelter is a critical need, it’s only the first of many “pathways to change” that we provide. Our real goal is to provide dignified opportunities for those who have been defeated by circumstance, and offer them deep and lasting change that truly improves their quality of life. We offer these services to everyone who comes through our doors, regardless of their beliefs, because that’s what Christ has called us to do. And during all our years one thing has never changed – our commitment to honor the Lord by helping those among us who are most in need (Proverbs 14:31). By doing this, we hope that each person will discover the transforming power of Christ’s love. The reasons for becoming homeless are many and complex; job loss, poverty, substance abuse, domestic violence, mental illness, broken relationships. These are just a few of the issues that can lead to being homeless. The answers to helping restore lives are just as complex, and we can’t do it alone. Women and Children's Shelter The fastest growing segment of Snohomish County’s homeless population is women and children. Over 40% of the known 2,300 homeless people in our community are women, and there are over 800 homeless children in Snohomish County. Whether fleeing domestic violence, losing a job, trapped in substance abuse or other issues, women and children who are desperate for safe shelter are welcomed at Everett Gospel Mission with open arms. With our addition the Mission now has bed space for 100 women and children. The Women and Children’s Shelter offers much more than safe warm shelter, however. Each person who arrives at our shelter undergoes a detailed intake assessment which helps us evaluate her individual needs. Based on this evaluation, we develop – with each person – a customized program to help them and their family pursue stability and a future of hope and promise. Each adult residing at our women and children’s shelter is offered intensive one-on-one case management, Bible studies, Life Management classes, and a specialized 12-step recovery group. Our goal is to provide everyone who comes to us with a new set of tools around which to build a transformed life. Each family has access to nutritious meals, comfortable beds, clean clothing, mentoring, Bible studies, life-skills classes and other help they need to get off the streets for good. Children have a comfortable place to do homework, plus get help if they need it, increasing their odds of success in school. This comes at a critical time when more than 800 mothers and children are waiting for housing in Snohomish County. Their average wait for emergency housing can be as long as six months to a couple of years. Men's Shelter Each day, hundreds of men who have run out of options turn to the Everett Gospel Mission for help. Whether they come for a meal, for shelter, or just for a shower and a change of clothing, each is welcomed and treated with dignity and respect. And every person who comes through our doors is offered help to address his physical, emotional and spiritual needs. As the only shelter for homeless men in Snohomish County, we provide these services 365 days each year. On average, 145 men will stay with us each night, and many more will utilize our Day Center to gain access to other critical services. And while we are dedicated to providing these outreach services, our true goal is to change lives and provide a gateway to a stable future. It is often through providing three daily meals or our outreach program that men decide to join our long-term residential programs. Everett Gospel Mission’s residential programs include addiction recovery, individual case management, education and work therapy all within a faith-based environment. Our approach offers long-term, practical solutions to the many issues relating to homelessness, and we strive to help each individual develop pathways that restore the hope and promise of living the life God has designed for them. Feed Hope Kitchen Feed Hope Kitchen is a 14-week hands-on, professional culinary training and job placement program designed to give homeless men and women the hope, skills and confidence they need to begin a career in the culinary industry. This program is the first of its kind for Everett Gospel Mission. It was developed in partnership with FareStart in Seattle, and is designed to set graduates apart from other entry-level applicants because it’s all about mastery of skills. It’s a launch pad for hope. With this training, people could begin entry-level jobs and have the potential to move up in the industry and make a living wage. Any EGM residents and members of the community who are teachable, ready to work hard and willing to commit to giving it their all are invited to apply for this life-changing program.
