Mission Statement
The mission of King County 4x4 Search and Rescue is to provide a public service by engaging in Search and Rescue, Civil Emergency, and community assistance activities in support of civil agencies and other authorized Search and Rescue organizations; thereby aiding in the relief of the distressed and the lessening of the burdens on government. The unit promotes outdoor safety, good fellowship, and good sportsmanship through rescue operations, public education, member training, and by setting a commendable example.
About This Cause
An Amber Alert is issued for a missing child. An unprepared hiker camper wanders off trail, losing all sense of direction. A family is missing a Grandparent with dementia who has wandered away from home. A camper becomes injured in the wilderness. When a call for a search and rescue mission to aid people who are in danger or distress comes through, time is of the essence. The sooner a victim is located and expedited to a medical facility, or reunited with their family, the better the chances of survival. Effective rescue operations hinge on a fast response, a well-trained team, and a well-coordinated effort. Almost anyone can be affected by a Search and Rescue mission. Do you hike or bike on trails? Do you enjoy off-road motorsports? Do you have young children in your family? Do you have any family members with memory or cognitive disabilities? When you take your adventure off the beaten path, will there be someone to help if you need it? In King County, Washington State, you call 911, 911 calls the Sherriff’s Office, and the Sheriff’s Office calls us. In 2014, our volunteer members drove 108,767 miles while volunteering over 13,839 hours of service to our community. Averaging at least 100 rescue missions each year, since 1966, our 100% volunteer 501(c) 3 organization has demonstrated proficiency in more than 5,000 rescue deployments. We save lives and we help other SAR units and first responders save lives. When our members are equipped with the right gear, and a reliable fleet, we are able to maximize our contribution to our community. We are 100% funded by donations, with no tax-dollar funding for our budget, or reimbursement for our activities.
