Mission Statement

We partner with older adults, adults with disabilities, and those who care for them to combat the inequities of aging while providing accessible, essential, and inclusive services to support people on their life's journey. We strive to foster a multigenerational community that embraces multi-faceted ways to age in place while recognizing and fulfilling the diverse and changing needs of everyone.

About This Cause

Sound Generations is a comprehensive non-profit organization that supports people on their aging journey through community connections and accessible services. Established in 1967, each year we support tens of thousands of older adults, people with disabilities, and those who care for them throughout King County. Our twelve programs, operating throughout numerous community and senior center sites, are constantly striving to expand services to underserved and marginalized communities by providing food security, transportation, health & wellness, and assistance services. Everybody deserves access. We are committed to helping all people, especially those with low-incomes and people of color, obtain the services they need while feeling included and respected in a community that affirms aging. What We Provide: 1. FOOD SECURITY: Providing access to nutritionally balanced meals. •Community Dining is a network of different locations throughout King County where aging adults can enjoy a hot nutritious lunch with their friends and neighbors year-round, including holidays. During COVID, the Community Dining program has increased the number of meals served by providing to-go and delivery meals in partnership with Hyde Shuttle. •Meals on Wheels delivers a week’s worth of frozen meals (every week needed) to eligible older adults throughout King County. The clients we serve can choose from a menu of 36 diverse meals. In addition to the human contact that our client representatives offer on the phone when meals are ordered, our staff and volunteers get to know the clients they serve when delivering meals. 2.TRANSPORTATION: Keeping seniors connected to their community and living independently. •Hyde Shuttle offers door-to-door service throughout many King County communities, with rides to the doctor, a friend’s house, a nearby senior or community center, or other local errands. •Volunteer Transportation has volunteer drivers that use their own vehicles to provide safe, personalized transport to and from medical appointments while providing companionship to the clients we serve. The Driver Companion Program (DCP) reimburses volunteer drivers who give rides to older adults of color using their first language, often not English. 3.HEALTH AND WELLNESS: Nationally recognized, evidence-based programs provide access to resources, knowledge, and social support enabling all people to achieve their health goals, regardless of age, income, or any other factor. •Enhance Wellness coaches help assess health, set goals, and create and implement plans to improve physical, emotional, and social well-being. •Enhance Fitness is an exercise program geared to older adults that empowers participants, regardless of fitness levels, to lead healthy and active lives. 4.ASSISTANCE SERVICES: Connecting individuals to community resources to address complex situations. •Pathways Information & Assistance provides information and referrals that enable participants to maintain independence and improve their quality of life. •The Caregivers program helps unpaid caregivers assess needs, navigate complex resources, and deal with the emotional, physical and financial challenges of caregiving. •Minor Home Repair provides affordable home maintenance for Seattle, Bellevue and Shoreline homeowners, including incorporating safety features that enable greater independence and self-sufficiency. •Senior Rights Assistance empowers participants to utilize their legal rights by providing specialized help with a wide range of topics including Estate Planning, Powers of Attorney, Probate and Guardianship. •Geriatric Regional Assessment Team (GRAT) offers comprehensive geriatric assessments focused on memory, mood, health, function, support, and access to resources. The GRAT team creates a safety net and stable environment by establishing connections to long term resources.
