About This Cause
The mission of Northwest Harvest is to provide nutritious food to hungry people statewide in a manner that respects their dignity, while fighting to eliminate hunger. Our vision is ample nutritious food is available to everyone in Washington State. Northwest Harvest is the only non-profit food bank distributor operating statewide in Washington with a network of more than 370 food banks, meal programs and high-need schools. Through this network, we provide more than 2 million meals every month. We are committed to nutrition. Northwest Harvest has decades of experience in promoting healthy eating while reducing hunger. We uphold high standards and ensure our supply of nutritious, in-demand products by purchasing a significant share of our food directly. Two-thirds of the food we provide consists of highly nutritious fruits and vegetables. With distribution centers in western, eastern, coastal and central Washington, Northwest Harvest reaches rural communities where people in need would otherwise go hungry. We require that our partner food banks provide Northwest Harvest food freely to anyone hungry enough to ask, respecting our clients’ dignity while serving their need. For 47 years we’ve been committed to lifting up the voices of those in need across the state, and we are doing more today than ever before. We distributed more than 32 million pounds of food last year, setting a distribution record and allowing us to serve unprecedented numbers of hungry people. Northwest Harvest relies on your donations to help us achieve our mission. Every penny of our food and operating funds comes from individuals, businesses, foundations and other organizations, and 93 percent of our total budget goes directly to food distribution.
