Mission Statement

SEED's mission is to improve the quality of life in Southeast Seattle by creating partnerships and inspiring investments in housing, arts and economic development- with a special focus on residents with fewer opportunities and resources.

About This Cause

SEED is an innovative and collaborative leader in creating vibrant neighborhoods. SEED creates catalytic partnerships to develop affordable housing, including senior housing. SEED's development of affordable apartment units and commercial suites has brought new businesses and jobs to Southeast Seattle. SEED has energetically supported diverse community and economic development, including high quality education and training for current and emerging workers. Quality job creation is one of the most pressing social justice and equity issues in our community. SEED's aim is to translate this goal into concrete action. SEEDArts- a program of SEED, believes in the power of art in building community. We offer visual, performing and public art programs that inspire and connect residents and visitors of Southeast Seattle. SEEDArts founded Southeast Seattle's two main art facilities: the Rainier Valley Cultural Center, a performing arts center, and the Columbia City Gallery, an artists collective and gallery. these cultural facilities support community- based artists with local spaces in which to work, perform exhibit and teach. SEEDArts also established the only major non-municipally funded art program in Seattle, resulting in over 40 public artworks that enhance open spaces and the urban environment.
