Mission Statement

New Beginnings empowers survivors and mobilizes community awareness and action to end domestic violence.

About This Cause

New Beginnings empowers survivors and mobilizes community awareness and action to end domestic violence. At New Beginnings, our integrated solutions provide more than 600 survivors and children with ongoing support and impacts the lives of more than 10,000 community members through five key programs: The DVHopeline provides a centralized 24-hour King County helpline for domestic violence survivors and the wider community. Previous helplines offered through New Beginnings and LifeWire were folded into this new program when it was launched in July 2021. And we have plans to merge with the helpline offered through DAWN in the near future. In addition to phone access, an online chat service is also available. Survivors now only need to call one number, rather than three or more, to receive life-saving referrals and support in their area. The Community Advocacy Program provides emotional support, safety planning and direct financial assistance to survivors and their children. Staff Advocates and our Mental Health Therapist effectively lead survivors to housing, food, health care, education and employment solutions through individual resource planning, legal advocacy, mental health therapy, financial assistance, support groups, parenting support, and social service referrals. We also create access to safe housing options for survivors and their children through the Home Safe Program. Home Safe provides refuge through temporary housing at Bridge Housing, our 17-unit apartment building; rapid re-housing through referrals; direct financial assistance to help secure or maintain other stable housing; and hotel vouchers for crisis situations. Finally, we break the cycle of abuse through our Community Outreach and Education Services. This program works towards preventing and ultimately ending domestic violence by facilitating classes on domestic violence awareness, prevention, and intervention. These services reach thousands of teens, parents, schoolteachers, counselors, and other community each year.
