Mission Statement
Food Lifeline’s mission is to feed people experiencing hunger today while working to end hunger for tomorrow.
About This Cause
About Us Food Lifeline brings people together to ensure everyone can access nourishing, culturally relevant food—today and forever. With food insecurity rising across Western Washington, we are responding urgently to meet the demand and build a coalition of collective action. We connect and collaborate with our neighbors and partners, advancing food access and distribution that meet communities' needs. We uphold the right to food by supplying 300 agency partners, and through the relationships we nurture with food donors, such as farmers, manufacturers, and grocers. We protect the right to food long-term by addressing food insecurity’s complex root causes through advocacy, policy change, community partnerships, and fundraising. Volunteers sort and repack food in Food Lifeline’s warehouse in Seattle’s South Park neighborhood. Through our food agency partnership network, covering 17 counties in Western Washington, we deliver ingredients to make 164,000 meals daily. Last year, 1.8 million people visited our food agency partners, a yearly increase of 20%. Community-Driven Food Lifeline believes that nutritious, culturally relevant food is a human right and that every community should have the food they need to thrive. Communities with lived experience of food insecurity know best what solutions will be most effective, so we actively listen to our neighbors to understand what actions will make a lasting impact. We heard that by working collaboratively, we can focus our efforts where need is most significant, and ensure the right foods go to the right places. We are strengthening and supporting our network of local agency partners with training, infrastructure, funding, and shared learning so the network can serve more people. We are also investing in community-led solutions like community gardens and mobile food trucks, which improve access to nourishing foods. We are building a movement of collective power to organize, advocate, and change the narratives about food insecurity, drive lasting policy change, and address the root causes of food insecurity. With over forty years of experience in hunger relief, Food Lifeline leverages its scale, purchasing power, and operational efficiency to maximize the reach and impact of every resource to meet growing community needs. Community-Powered Together, we are working to create a more equitable, resilient, and just local food system for everyone.
