Mission Statement

Animal Foster Care's mission is to provide a safe haven for abandoned and unwanted cats and kittens until a permanent home can be found.

About This Cause

AFC is a no-kill 501 (c) (3) nonprofit, all volunteer organization. Only in extreme cases where a cat has no hope of any quality of life is it euthanized. Cats having treatable illnesses or diseases live out their lives at the shelter or in foster homes where they receive proper treatment or palliative care. All of the cats housed and adopted out are sterilized, vaccinated and treated for parasites. AFC is often called upon to rescue anywhere from a few to 30 cats at a time from a single location. A small feral cat sanctuary is maintained in back of the shelter for the cats that were represented as tame when brought to the shelter but in fact turned out to be unsocialized and therefore not adoptable. AFC has a program called Mom and Dad's Last Litter. AFC takes the kittens and spays/neuters the mom and dad for free before they are returned to their owner. We are able to help so many cats and kittens because we partner and send many to no-kill rescues in Western WA. In 2021 we helped 1360 cats/kittens. We transferred 1000 to our partner rescues. Many of these had already been spayed/neutered, vaccinated and treated for parasites. We receive no money for these transfers but know the cats/kittens have a better chance of being adopted. AFC finances and maintains the running of the shelter solely through its own efforts. No government agency contributes to any aspect of keeping the shelter open.
