Mission Statement

Peer Seattle provides peer emotional support services to the LGBTQ community for issues related to HIV/AIDS, addiction/recovery, along with any issue directly or indirectly related to LGBTQ community.

About This Cause

Peer Seattle was founded in 1984 as a response to the burgeoning AIDS epidemic to provide compassionate support of men and women during a time when fear and lack of knowledge often alienated HIV positive individuals. We brought people together with shared experience in support of one another who were affected by this disease. Today, we carry on the services of peer emotional support to the many issues impacting the LGBTQ community. There is a bond of understanding that can only be shared by people who have endured the same experiences. By bringing people together in support of one another, there is no need to justify, quantify, or qualify our background, our feelings, or our struggles. We can meet each other where we are today and share successes and encouragement with each other. We can eliminate feelings of isolation and learn that there are others who have the same struggles and offer hope through community and personal empowerment.
