Mission Statement
Habitat for Humanity Seattle-King & Kittitas Counties help families build strength, stability, and self-reliance through shelter.
About This Cause
Our vision is “a world where everyone has a decent place to live.” As the largest Habitat for Humanity affiliate in Washington State and one of the top 10 Habitat affiliates nationally, we are uniquely positioned to address the impact of the greater Seattle area’s housing affordability crisis on low-income families and help them become and remain homeowners. Habitat SKKC embraces a model of permanent affordability, operating an internal land trust program that removes the cost of high-priced land from the purchase price of Habitat homes. We offer tools for success tailored to the needs of our first-time homeowners - including sweat equity, affordable mortgages, comprehensive training, family support partners, and homeowners associations for lasting self-sufficiency. Since 1986, Habitat for Humanity Seattle-King & Kittitas Counties provided over 688 housing solutions, serving more than 2000 people. With your help, we will reach 1,000 housing solutions by 2025. We have a current pipeline of over 185 new homes that we are building in areas across King County including Lake City, Capitol Hill, Burien, Ballard, Renton, and North Bend. We also recently began a partnership with a Bellevue church to build 23 units on adjacent property over the next couple of years. Last year, Habitat provided 60 repairs, primarily benefiting Senior Citizens. Over 2,300 volunteers annually fuel our primary activities, which include: - New Construction - Critical Home Repairs, including helping Seniors Age in Place - Operating Habitat Stores to fund our mission. Volunteer with us! We train and guide you - no prior experience is required. We welcome people of all skill levels. Donations and specialized volunteers are always welcome!
