Family Renewal Shelter provides critical outreach and shelter to desperate families needing to escape devastating domestic violence situations and go into hiding for their safety.
About This Cause
Family Renewal Shelter focuses on helping desperate domestic violence victims in severe abusive situations find safety and freedom by fleeing their perpetrator and going into hiding. FRS is a regional confidential domestic violence shelter in Pierce County specializing in rescuing and relocating extremely high risk victims. Founded in 1986, FRS provides first responder emergency services to those in fear of being killed or seriously injured by their intimate partners. Family Renewal Shelter wants to save lives by providing these victims and their children the means to escape safely. Often times this requires our staff to develop a rescue plan and pick the family up at a pre-determined location within minutes of the family leaving their house. This is a very critical time because seventy-five percent of domestic violence homicides occur while the victim is trying to leave or having recently left. Many of these victims are literally grabbing their children and frantically getting out the door while the abusive partner is in the shower or running an errand. Once in the safety of our peaceful refuge they begin to feel safe and loved. Not being forced to live in daily survival mode allows critical thinking, planning and even dreaming to return. They can then develop their personal safety and relocation plan with the help of our advocates. Our program also serves men and their children who need our services.
