About This Cause

Through SAN’s Pantry Program, SAN provides HIV-positive individuals nutritionally balanced food. The Pantry Program, which serves 40+ clients, allows clients to chose between pickup or delivery of a pre-made bag consisting of high caloric foods and high protein foods once a week to augment their diet. This also provides clients an opportunity to improve social networking and helps prevent isolation which many of SAN clients suffer from. SAN provides clients with holiday boxes designed to provide clients with a large variety of food such as turkey, ham, stuffing, etc. A variety of emergency food bags are also available to clients who are homeless, staying in a hotel, or don’t have a permanent residence. The grant funds will enable SAN to maintain the Pantry Program at weekly intervals to further meet the nutritional needs of clients. In addition, purchasing of fresh produce, dairy and meat products will be increased to ensure clients dietary requirements are met to keep clients healthy SAN is creative and innovative in raising money for our Pantry Program. SAN has a variety of grants which help fund food for the HIV/AIDS clients in our area. SAN receives funds that are designated to people who are living with HIV/AIDS as well as for those who are low income. SAN created the Pantry Program in response to an annual survey and needs assessment. The Pantry Program has been in existence for many years and has become very popular. The Spokane community has assisted in numerous targeted events to assist with this successful program. This has a dual purpose of raising awareness in the community about the HIV/AIDS and educating people at the same time. Foundation and local grants continue to fund different aspects of direct services for clients. SAN is competitive in seeking out new dollars to balance out the budget for these direct services. SAN has increased its fundraising events and donor giving campaigns. All of the above will help maintain future sustainability of SAN’s comprehensive programs. SAN is entering familiar territory and we are getting 'Back to Basics' with our new DOH Ryan White Contract. This contract, along with a HOPWA Housing contract, will allow SAN to grow, hire employees, provide additional support and services, while still remaining SAN and what we are known for, community. Donations are even more crucial than before with these new reimbursement contracts.
