Mission Statement

To be a trusted, independent resource to all participants in the health care community – patients, providers, payers, employers, hospital leadership and government agencies - with the goal to provide safer, better care for patients.

About This Cause

The Foundation for Health Care Quality (FHCQ), a nationally recognized 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization based in Seattle, is home to several programs dedicated to reducing variation in outcomes and improving safety and the quality of care for patients. Programs under the auspices of FHCQ include the Washington Patient Safety Coalition (WPSC) – dedicated to improving patient safety and reducing medical errors; the Dr. Robert Bree Collaborative (BREE) – a public/private partnership identifying specific ways to improve health care quality, outcomes and affordability in Washington State; Smooth Transitions – focused on improving patient safety and satisfaction through improving transitions of care; and several Care Outcomes Assessment Programs (COAP) – quality improvement collaboratives which are each dedicated to a specific clinical specialty. These COAP collaboratives use a unique model of clinician-led, data-driven collaboration and have, for over 20 years, proven incredibly effective at promoting the changes which result both in better care for patients and in lower costs.
