The Gluten Intolerance Group is on a mission to make life easier for everyone living gluten-free. We do this through education, support, and food safety.
About This Cause
The Gluten Intolerance Group of North America (GIG) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization funded by tax-deductible contributions to support its many innovative food safety and outreach programs. GIG is a highly respected leader in the community and has been since it was founded in 1974. Headquartered in Auburn, WA, GIG has an international presence in 29 countries. GIG programs include Community Awareness and provides education to consumers, health professionals, food manufacturers, restaurants and other food service establishments There are over 70 Branches to provide support and education to their local communities around the US, as well as foreign countries. Generation GF was created to help kids, teens and young adults to build confidence for those requiring the gluten-free (GF) diet. GIG works with several GF Camps for those that want to have a great camping experience with regular campers and not have to worry about their diet. GIG has staff at some camps to prepare and monitor the meals for the campers. GIG has two food safety programs Gluten-Free Certification Organization (GFCO) and Gluten-Free Food Services (GFFS) Training and Accreditation. GFCO is the most recognized certification program that certifies food manufacturers which provides confidence to consumers when they see the GFCO logo on the company packaging. GFFS is a similar program that works with food service locations, restaurants, hospitals, cafeterias, retirement homes, etc. by training and educating kitchen and wait staff in the proper handling of foods to avoid cross contamination which again gives the consumer confidence the food service location is knowledgeable about the gluten-free diet
