SEATTLE SHAKESPEARE FESTIVAL

Mission Statement

With the plays of William Shakespeare at our core, Seattle Shakespeare Company engages our audiences, our artists, and our community in the universal human experience inherent in classic drama through the vitality, immediacy, and intimacy of live performance and dynamic outreach programs. We pursue this mission through an indoor season of five plays based in Seattle, an outdoor season of free Shakespeare in the region’s parks under the Wooden O banner, in-school and off-site education programs, and statewide touring productions.

About This Cause

Founded in 1991 as a summer festival, Seattle Shakespeare Company now pursues its mission as a year-round theatre company. We achieve our mission through four arms of programming that reach across barriers of income, geography, and education to bring classical theatre to life for more than 54,000 people annually in Washington State: 1) an indoor season of five plays performed at Seattle venues, 2) a summer of free Shakespeare in Puget Sound parks as Seattle Shakespeare Company's Wooden O Theatre, 3) a wide range of youth education programs, including in-school residencies and workshops, discounted student matinees, after school programs, and summer Shakespeare camps and 4) touring productions that span Washington State, from Pullman to Port Angeles.
