Mission Statement

Jubilee Women's Center supports women experiencing poverty to build stable and fulfilling futures, one extraordinary woman at a time.

About This Cause

For over 39 years, Jubilee Women’s Center has filled a critical role in the continuum of care for women in King County, providing safe transitional housing and essential needs to women experiencing homelessness due to domestic violence, physical and mental health challenges, substance use, lack of affordable housing, a shortage of living wage employment, or a combination of these. Working through a trauma-informed lens, our program holistically addresses the complex circumstances that lead to housing instability so participants leave Jubilee empowered and self-sufficient. Program participants are women-identifying adults at risk of or experiencing homelessness who are: • age 25 – 80 and leaving incarceration, an abusive relationship, or an unsuitable living environment such as an emergency shelter, vehicle, or the streets. • veterans experiencing mental health challenges due to PTSD, sexual assault, or other forms of trauma. • Transitional youth age 18-25 leaving incarceration or aging out of foster care, and young women who are pregnant. • Non-traditional students age 26 or older enrolled in post-secondary vocational training programs or educational institutions whose housing insecurity puts them at risk for not completing their education. At Jubilee, participants are given the time and space to heal from trauma, stabilize their mental and physical health, and gain the skills needed for building a stable and fulfilling future. Jubilee’s program incorporates experiential learning with classroom curriculum that covers a broad set of topics designed to build confidence, skills, and connections, aiding participants in achieving independence and economic self-sufficiency. Topics include computer & software skills, job readiness preparation, community living, financial literacy & money management, nutrition & health, and conflict resolution. Strategic program elements include safe housing and holistic case management, pathways to housing support, employment support, community meals, clothing, and computer access. Participants pay 30% of their income in rent, building a positive rental history and minimizing barriers related to rental history gaps. Additionally, Jubilee serves approximately 1,300 women in the broader community with free clothing, classes, computer access, and referrals to community resources. Our goal is that participants leave Jubilee empowered and self-sufficient, with a safety net of support.
