Mission Statement
Earth Ministry transforms faith into action for the well-being of communities and the environment. We organize people of faith to advocate for strong environmental policies and provide strategic guidance to religious communities working toward environmental justice.
About This Cause
Earth Ministry Programs Greening Congregations Earth Ministry's Greening Congregations certification program honors institutional creation care commitments. The first of its kind in the country, our flexible program supports houses of worship in envisioning, implementing, and celebrating the "greening" of various aspects of church life: worship, education, building & grounds, community engagement, and advocacy. Earth Ministry provides hands-on support through consultations with congregational green teams, leading adult education workshops, and bringing faith communities together to share success stories, challenges, and plans for the future. Faithful Advocacy Earth Ministry prepares people of faith to be effective advocates for the environment. We lead advocacy days in the state capitol and train members to make their voices heard at public hearings, in meetings with elected officials, and through the media. Earth Ministry provides numerous opportunities in the state legislature and Congress for our members to put their faith into action on issues such as climate change, toxics and children's health, coal export, and public lands, among many others. Washington Interfaith Power & Light Earth Ministry actively engages people from a variety of faith traditions on climate and energy issues through our Washington Interfaith Power & Light (WAIPL) project. WAIPL is part of the 14,000 congregation-strong Interfaith Power & Light national network, now active in 40 states across the country. We host interfaith workshops, worship services, trainings, and advocacy opportunities in partnership with a diversity of Jewish, Christian, Muslim, Buddhist, and other faith communities across the state.
