Mission Statement

Seattle Housing and Resource Effort (SHARE) is a 501(c)3 organization, self-managed by people who are currently or formerly homeless. Our mission is to shelter ourselves in a safe, dignified, communal environment. With the larger community’s support we work to empower one another to secure a better future and to end homelessness.

About This Cause

SHARE (Seattle Housing and Resource Effort) is a grassroots organization of homeless and formerly homeless men and women . Founded in 1990, we are self-organized and democratic. We practice self-management because it acknowledges and promotes the innate dignity of each person. For more than 24 years, we’ve been working to eradicate homelessness, educate the community, and empower homeless people. We facilitate 15 self-managed indoor shelters, two Tent Cities, a Housing-For-Work Program and a Storage Locker Program. We are engaged in many organizing efforts for the survival, dignity and remembrance of homeless people. We are the largest shelter network in the Pacific Northwest and we sponsor many unique projects. The geographic area in which we work is the Greater Seattle area and King County.
