Mission Statement

We are committed to supporting underrepresented Pierce County students of color to overcome financial, cultural, and social barriers in their pursuit of higher education.

About This Cause

At Palmer Scholars, we work to end generational cycles of poverty for our Scholars by guiding them through rigorous postsecondary readiness training, mentoring, job skills training, career-connected learning, and engaging Scholars in ongoing socioemotional outreach and support services. Our postsecondary readiness training curriculum includes ample opportunities for Scholars to engage in career exploration, both through skills assessments and seeing various career pathways in action through panels, site visits, and on the job training opportunities.  Recognizing the unique needs of economically disadvantaged young adults, we make a multi-year commitment to our Scholars to ensure they are not only successful in entering their best fit postsecondary program, whether that is a four-year, two-year, or trades institution or pre-apprenticeship, but also complete their program prepared to transition into a career that provides them a family wage. Despite the barriers that our Scholars face, we have achieved an all-time completion rate of 85%. We believe our services and approach builds a foundation for our Scholars to become economically empowered leaders in our community.
