LUMMI ISLAND HERITAGE TRUST

LUMMI ISLAND, Washington, 98262-0158 United States

Mission Statement

Our mission is to create a legacy of abundant open space, native habitat, and natural resources on Lummi Island by inspiring people to protect and care for the island's farms, forests, wetlands and shorelines forever.

About This Cause

Lummi Island Heritage Trust is responsible for protecting 1,088 acres of critical habitat and beloved open space on Lummi Island in perpetuity, including four nature preserves and 16 private conservation easements. Our everlasting work conserves crucial open fields with fertile agricultural soils, wetlands that hold precious groundwater, and forested sanctuaries for native plants and wildlife. Through educational events and active stewardship, we work with our community to improve the quality and conditions of our local lands and waterways. We provide public access to trails and shoreline, oversee a community garden and orchard, and implement land management practices that focus on natural climate change solutions and landscape connectivity. The Heritage Trust plays a vital role in preventing the conversion of land to development, restoring damaged lands, and connecting people to the natural world. Join us in Preserving the Nature of Lummi Island.
