About This Cause
Founded in 1997, Step By Step has served over 10,000 families. Step By Step serves approximately 1200 low income and at-risk pregnant women each year in the Pierce, King, and Snohomish counties. The women we serve have an income level below 185% of the Federal Poverty Level. Many have suffered from homelessness, domestic violence and abuse. Step By Step comes alongside these vulnerable women at the beginning of their pregnancy, offering them relational-based support, programs, and resources to help them have a healthy pregnancy. Our professional team of registered nurses, licensed counselors, and dietitians meet with women in their homes and create a customized plan of care for each mom. Our primary goal is to decrease pre-term births and low infant birth weights and prevent the tremendous toll placed on families and society due to poor birth outcomes. We also offer a homelessness prevention and transitional housing program, life skills and parenting classes, one on one mentoring, family events, and much more to help and encourage our moms, as they take the steps needed to establish a safe and healthy home for themselves and their children. We believe that healthy moms leads to healthy babies, which leads to healthy families and communities. Together, we are making a lifelong impact in the lives of the women and children we serve, and we are creating stronger children and families right here in our own neighborhoods.
