Mission Statement

The Mockingbird Society’s mission is to transform foster care and end youth homelessness. Working in partnership with young people who’ve lived through the systems we’re transforming, we change policies, perceptions, and practices that stand in between any young person and a safe, supportive, stable home.

About This Cause

Do you want to know what children and young people experiencing foster care or homelessness need? Ask them! Children and young people are the unheralded experts on the child welfare system -- and when their experiences are brought to bear, policies change for the better. Over the last twenty years, The Mockingbird Society has supported more than 111,000 young people by achieving 56 major advocacy wins. Our policies have helped youth in foster care access high school graduation support, secure college scholarships, experience sports and extra curricular activities with their peers, and find stable foster care placements through MOCKINGBIRD FAMILY™. And with Mockingbird advocacy wins comes deeper investment in Washington's children, youth and families -- more than $184 million in state dollars over two decades. That means that for every $1 you give to Mockingbird, we'll turn that in to $5.89 in services and support that can transform the lives of youth in foster care and their foster parents. Our brightest hope and our best answers for change come from young people who see the path forward to a better world, where young people in foster care have the same opportunities to thrive as their peers. Your support helps pave the way for that world.
