Mission Statement

Vine Maple Place is a Christian organization that breaks the generational cycle of homelessness by working with single parents and their children. Our approach offers safety, provides stability, and equips to self-sufficiency.

About This Cause

Vine Maple Place (VMP) works with single-parent families to break the generational cycle of homelessness by offering safety, providing stability, and equipping for self-sufficiency. Our vision is a safe and stable home where every parent and child can thrive. We provide holistic, integrated, trauma-informed services across a nine-mile radius in King County that includes Maple Valley, Covington, Black Diamond, Kent, Auburn, and Renton. Our approach, which we call the Stable Families program model, weaves together emergency housing, housing stability services, behavioral health services, employment and livable wage development, financial literacy training, parenting support, and all-inclusive child and youth services to help families achieve safety and stability. Stable Families works because of its generational approach, supporting the whole family in a responsive, client-centered, and pragmatic way that empowers both parents and children to build community and solve problems, stopping the intergenerational cycle of homelessness. VMP incorporated in 2000 as a nonprofit transitional housing service with capacity to serve 14 homeless families per year. In 2012, we began to research and pilot new and more effective ways of helping more families facing homelessness. We developed our comprehensive, trauma-informed Stable Families program, which is the program model we continue to use today because it is a pragmatic, responsive, client-centered, and integrated approach that empowers moms and kids to build new skills, reconnect with community, and eliminate the barriers that lead to homelessness. After six years of refining our Stable Families model, we know it works: 12 months after exiting VMP’s program, 91% of our families remain stably housed. By emphasizing an approach that is evidence-based and continually assessed for effectiveness, VMP’s Stable Families program has yielded other positive outcomes as well: families today spend 69% less time in our services as families in our old model—a reduction from 18 months to the current average of five and a half months. This approach has also decreased our costs by 86% per family and increased the number of families served annually by 2,282%. In FY2020, we served 1,603 individuals—1,033 of them children—across 524 families. In FY2021 (July 1, 2020 – June 30, 2021), we expect to increase this impact by 30%, to 670 families, equipping 2,077 parents and children with the skills and tools they need to become stable.
