Mission Statement
NWV Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope. We envision a world where everyone has a decent place to live.
About This Cause
North Willamette Valley Habitat for Humanity believes that everyone deserves a safe, secure, and stable place to live. Our affiliate was founded in 1986 to provide affordable housing and financial education to low-income families in our service area. We empower families and provide the tools to become successful homeowners by offering low-interest, affordable mortgages and financial literacy classes. In addition to this, NWV Habitat has another program called Ramps and Rails. Through this program, accessibility modifications are offered to low-moderate income individuals facing challenges with mobility, ensuring safe home access, well-being and independence. Our affiliate is committed to combating unaddressed, basic needs that stem from outdated systems and structural racism. We have and continue to focus on underserved and low to moderate-income groups to build the resources and skills needed to advance them in achieving homeownership. Historically we have shown our commitment to this by ensuring access to homeownership opportunities for those that would not qualify for a traditional home loan. The area in which our affiliate serves has a large and chronically underserved Latine/a/x/o community. Our commitment to addressing systemic barriers to housing opportunities has resulted in this community making up 65% of our partner families who now reside in long term, stable housing. Our current two partner families are part of the BIPOC community. Additionally, one of these families has several children with disabilities that require specific care accommodation. These needs were prioritized in the redesign of the home. While historically our affiliate has successfully worked to provide equitable access to housing, we are always actively working to improve upon this. We are committed to DEI education and training to ensure that we are constantly evolving, reevaluating our systems in place, and addressing barriers faced in our communities to ensure equitable opportunities and outcomes.
