About This Cause
Healers United expresses our profound commitment to addressing the urgent issue of reducing suicide rates within indigenous and marginalized groups. We acknowledge the importance of establishing trust and facilitating connections with professionals who share the cultural and economic backgrounds of these communities. This core principle is fundamental to our mission and approach. In response to this pressing issue, Healers United seeks to shift the current clinical practice paradigms by being a beacon of hope and a potential solution. Comprising a group of indigenous healers well-versed in a diverse array of ancient healing modalities, their expertise is rooted in traditions spanning thousands of years. In contrast, the United States is a relatively young nation, only 252 years old, and part of the trauma experienced by marginalized groups can be attributed to the generational disconnection from their original cultures' time-tested methods of healing. Healers United firmly believes that the path to healing extends beyond medication and traditional therapy. Our approach involves delving into the root of the problem, understanding the dynamics of home life, unraveling ingrained mental habits, reshaping perspectives on life and the future, and, most crucially, providing a safe space for open and honest dialogue. The challenge is multifaceted, involving not only high suicide rates but also the struggle to establish effective channels of support and healing within these communities. To address this issue effectively, a holistic approach that honors cultural diversity, ancient wisdom, and the profound human need for trust and connection is essential. Healers United aspires to bridge these gaps and offer a new paradigm of healing that goes beyond the statistics to transform lives and uplift marginalized communities together. The contemporary world is characterized by high levels of stress, anxiety, and chronic illness. A sense of disconnection from our inner selves and the world around us has led to a lack of understanding about our well-being and that of others. The rise of social media and popular culture, which promotes over-sexualization and exploitation, has resulted in increased pressure and trauma among young girls and women. The consequences are stark, with a generation of women grappling with body image issues, materialism, cyberbullying, eating disorders, self-harm, increased depression, and anxiety. There is a growing need for community and connection to provide the support and understanding that is often missing in the broader society. Healers United is dedicated to creating a world where individuals are deeply connected to their inner well-being and to one another, fostering peace, love, and prosperity for all. Our approach centers around the following core components: A Safe Space: We provide a safe and nurturing environment where children and individuals can openly discuss their experiences, feelings, and challenges. This safe space allows individuals who have experienced trauma to express their feelings and begin the healing process. Connection and Community: Healers United offers in-person and virtual seminars, classes, retreats, and team-building events. We firmly believe that relationships are essential for mental health. Being part of a supportive community is pivotal for mental well-being and growth. Life Skills and Empowerment: Our programs empower individuals with life skills, resilience-building strategies, and a sense of purpose. We focus on fostering the self-belief and confidence that can transform lives. Holistic Indigenous Healing: We strongly believe in healing the whole person. Our approach is holistic, encompassing physical, spiritual, mental, and emotional well-being. We honor the traditions and wisdom of indigenous cultures in our healing practices. Holistic healing practices, such as yoga breathing exercises, can help mitigate the negative effects of trauma resulting from racism and systemic racism on the nervous system. Yoga breathing exercises, also known as pranayama, can activate the parasympathetic nervous system, which can counteract the activation of the sympathetic nervous system that occurs during experiences of stress and trauma (Van Der Kolk, 2014). Research has shown that regular practice of yoga breathing exercises can lead to a reduction in symptoms of anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) (Streeter et al., 2010). In addition, yoga practices, such as yoga postures, meditation, and mindfulness, have also been shown to be effective in reducing symptoms of trauma (Van Der Kolk, 2014).
