Mission Statement
Our mission is to provide a place where chronically unsheltered homeless residents may rest their weary bones and live out their days without fear of being “swept” or “abated” from their home on the street. At a SoHSV development they can live with joy amongst their neighbors and a sense of purpose that can act as a motivator for positive behavior while contributing to a peaceful and attractive community. Our approach is based on an innovative, even miraculous, development to resolve this problem based in Austin, Texas called Community First! Village (CFV) operated by a non-profit called Mobile Loaves and Fishes. We plan to initially build a master planned housing development for 125 – 500 homeless people depending on the site we acquire. Eventually our mission is to care for 1,000 homeless in a dignified and cost-effective manner. Note, depending on real estate market conditions, we are also considering a pilot for 50 - 100 homes on 3-5 acres. This pilot could help profile the model to enhance awareness and support in Silicon Valley that could result in further expansion.
About This Cause
Our development will provide tiny homes and possibly other forms of accommodations like Recreational Vehicles, “safe sleeping” sites. While the physical environment provided to our residents must be safe, provide protection from the elements and be a warm, welcoming place to reside, the real key to this solution is to provide the feeling of being home and part of a supportive, caring community. While we pursue our overriding mission, we are running a program called Haircuts of Hope in partnership with Great Clips to cut hair for the chronically homeless. This service provides more than a haircut to our customers. When they leave the chair where they received a haircut, they leave looking and feeling different. Smiles and a sense of confidence abound – just ask them. This program is a way to make a small difference while we work on our larger mission, spread the word about Seeds of Hope Silicon Valley and provide a means for our volunteers and staff to get exposure to those we serve.
