Mission Statement
Rayo Counseling and Community Co-op represents a vital addition to Chicago’s mental health landscape. Established in March 2023, Rayo unites seasoned Community Mental Health workers driven by a shared vision of crafting a transformative, person-centered, rights-based Community Mental Health Center (CMHC) founded on cooperative principles. At the heart of Rayo’s mission lies a threefold commitment: first, to foster a desegregated approach to mental healthcare with an outpatient program that prioritizes meaningful and maximum client engagement in their treatment; second, to forge a community-centric recovery program tailored for individuals grappling with severe mental illness; third, to enhance CMHC staff retention by cultivating a democratically-organized, worker-led CMHC with robust retention strategies and support structures.
About This Cause
Rayo Counseling and Community Co-op (RCCC) is a community mental health center serving clients in Cook County Illinois and the surrounding suburbs. Rayo Counseling and Community Co-op incorporates cooperative principles into both organizational structure and service provision for the purpose of improved healing outcomes for under-resourced individuals across the mental health continuum. RCCC provides outreach and engagement to individuals in need of mental health services, and provides outreach and resources to the public on mental health issues, including suicide prevention and wellness by hosting regular workshops, trainings and community support groups open to the public. RCCC uses a person-centered, strengths-based approach to serve individuals of all ages who are experiencing symptoms of mental illness. We serve clients seeking treatment for single issues and clients that have complex needs as a result of a variety of processes and systems, such as child welfare, justice or multisystem involvement, medical comorbidity, homelessness, dual disorders. Additionally, we provide services to individuals with or at risk for severe mental illness (SMI) and/or severe emotional disturbance (SED) through an interdisciplinary team that includes Peer Workers, Certified Recovery Support Specialists (CRSS), and consultation with a psychiatrist. Rayo does not discriminate based upon age, gender, presentation or financial status and prioritizes services for individuals who are under-resourced, uninsured, or under-insured. Rayo serves clients who reside in Cook County, Illinois. Access to community support services will prioritize clients based upon proximity to our office location. Decisions regarding Rayo’s ability to provide off-site community support services to clients residing further from our office will be made on a case by case basis determined by logistic feasibility, client’s level of need, and whether closer agencies able to provide community support are accessible to the client.
