Mission Statement
Warpaint intends to fill the void that exists in outdoor sports and to help heal the lack of diversity in that space. Warpaint is dedicated to promoting diversity, inclusivity, and belonging in outdoor recreation. We amplify BIPOC voices with the magazine. We are building community through inclusive group activities, and educational skills clinics. Finally, with our Trail Program, we are fostering a sense of ownership with the lands we steward through our trail-building programs to create a more equitable and welcoming future in the outdoors.
About This Cause
Warpaint was brought into existence by Ruandy Albisurez. Warpaint works to increase the visibility of racially marginalized people in outdoor sports through our digital magazine, and through a print magazine that is in the works. Warpaint promotes diversity in the outdoors by providing free/low-cost mountain bike skills and maintenance clinics for the BIPOC community. Warpaint creates safe spaces for BIPOC to enter and experience the sport of mountain biking by organizing inclusive group rides for all skill levels. Warpaint brings a connection with the land by partnering with other community organizations and offering clinics on mountain bike trail building and maintenance. We believe that working on trails delivers a different type of connection with the sport, it fosters a sense of ownership with the local trails and encourages a more concrete connection with the outdoors. Currently our goals are the print issue of Warpaint magazine, seeing themselves in print and in a magazine will build excitement for the BIPOC community in seeing themselves authentically represented. Raising funding to start beginner bike clinics, group rides for the local indigenous youth in the Portland, OR area. We've been working towards stronger connections with local tribes locally and in other states. We are also working on having the Portland areas first all BIPOC built mountain bike trail ready by summer 2024.
