Mission Statement

The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.

About This Cause

SCOUT OATH On my honor I will do my best To do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law; To help other people at all times; To keep myself physically strong, mentally awake and morally straight. SCOUT LAW A Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean and reverent. The Cascade Pacific Council (a 501(c) 3 organization) serves boys and girls in 19 counties of NW Oregon and SW Washington. Supported by 44 paid staff, thousands of volunteer leaders deliver the program through hundreds of Scouting groups. Each group is sponsored (chartered) by a community partner, including businesses, churches, school groups, service clubs, and parent groups. Scouting’s programs focus on character development, citizenship training, and physical fitness, and provide the three essentials for positive youth development: life-skills-building experiences, youth leadership opportunities, and positive, long-term relationships with caring adult mentors. • Cub Scouting: Family and home-centered program for boys and girls in kindergarten through fifth grades. • Scouts BSA: Program for boys and girls 11 - 17 designed to nurture citizenship, develop character, and encourage fitness. [Girls participate in single sex troops designed especially for them but using the same curriculum as boy troops.] • Venturing: Co-ed program for ages 14-20 focused on service, high adventure outdoor experiences, and practical leadership experiences. Sea Scouting teaches nautical skills in a Venture crew setting. • Exploring: Co-ed program for ages 14-20 focused on career opportunities, character education, life skills, and leadership experience. • STEM: Skills-based programs offering greater exposure to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics to cultivate future vocational interests. Offered at all program levels and at council summer camps.
